Equestrian enthusiasts can find quality gear while supporting local vendors at unique market event

RIDGEVILLE, SC – Horse lovers and bargain hunters alike will have a unique opportunity to find quality equestrian gear at Highway 78 Farmers Market's special Horse Tack Sale Swap on Saturday, June 28, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The event transforms the popular farmers market at 964 Highway 78 into a hub for the equestrian community, featuring over 10 specialized vendors selling everything from saddles and bridles to blankets, boots, and riding accessories.

"We're excited to welcome the horse community to our market," said Denise Lee, Market Manager. "This event brings together equestrian enthusiasts with our regular vendors, creating opportunities for everyone to discover new products and make connections."

Treasure Hunt for Equestrian Gear

The tack sale offers riders of all disciplines the chance to find both new and gently used equipment at competitive prices. Expected items include:

  • Saddles for English and Western disciplines

  • Bridles, halters, and lead ropes

  • Horse blankets and sheets

  • Riding boots, helmets, and apparel

  • Grooming supplies and tools

  • Training equipment and accessories

"Whether you're a seasoned rider looking for that perfect saddle or a beginner building your first tack collection, there's something for everyone," noted Lee. "The variety of vendors ensures shoppers can compare options and find exactly what they need."

Beyond the Barn: Market Favorites Continue

While the horse tack takes center stage, Highway 78 Farmers Market's regular vendors will continue offering their popular products, creating an ideal shopping experience for entire families.

Market regulars can still find Peculiar Pig BBQ's renowned grits and barbecue, Yellow Dog Farm's fresh produce, artisan sourdough bread, kettle corn, ice-cold lemonade, and the freeze-dried candies that have become a children's favorite.

"This is what makes our market special," explained Lee. "We're bringing different communities together. Horse families can shop for tack while enjoying local foods and products, and our regular customers get to explore a whole new world of equestrian culture."

New Addition Creates Excitement

The market will debut its new "Dancing Man" inflatable near the entrance, adding a festive atmosphere to draw attention to the special event. Vendors are also encouraged to display feather flags alongside the market's banners to create an impressive, festival-like presentation visible from the highway.

"We want this to feel like a celebration of the equestrian community," said Lee. "The Dancing Man and additional flags will create that special event atmosphere that gets people excited to explore."

Growing Market Draws Diverse Communities

Highway 78 Farmers Market has experienced remarkable growth since its founding by Lee, an accomplished author, and her husband Steven, who works for Boeing. What began as a modest gathering has expanded to nearly 45 vendors serving hundreds of weekly customers.

"Our market has become a place where different communities come together," Lee noted. "Whether it's families with children, food enthusiasts, craft lovers, or now the horse community, everyone finds something special here."

Perfect Timing for Riding Season

The June timing proves ideal for equestrian shoppers preparing for summer riding activities, competitions, and training programs. Many riders use this season to upgrade equipment or find backup gear for busy show schedules.

Local riding instructor Sarah Johnson plans to attend. "Tack sales are gold mines for riders," she said. "You can find quality equipment that might be out of reach at retail prices, and it's always exciting to see what treasures people are selling."

Economic Impact for Local Community

The specialized event demonstrates the market's commitment to serving diverse community needs while supporting local economic development. The influx of equestrian customers benefits not only tack vendors but all market participants.

"Events like this showcase how farmers markets can evolve beyond just produce sales," said Lee. "We're creating economic opportunities for vendors while building bridges between different groups in our community."
